Has this ever happened to you? You're listening to your music library on shuffle and you hear two (or more) songs in a row that are linked in some obscure way and you're positive it's more than a coincidence, and what the hell kind of force is fucking with you and why won't it stop, doesn't it know there is homework to be done and very little time for distraction, dammit?

At this time last year I probably would've been sitting at my cubicle at the law firm I worked at, doing data entry and other fun stuff. Since it's after lunch I likely would have been putting my iPod on blast, trying not to collapse from itis.

Most people cringe at data entry but I liked it because I got to sift through hundreds of lawsuits and see the bullshit people tried to pull just to get money out of an accident that in all likeliness was at least partly their fault. I had to record lots of phantom side effects that were reported months (and sometimes years) after a minor fender bender, shit that you know these people are making up (and doctor's reports would confirm this). A lot of the insurance claims were legit of course, but the reality is people often ask for compensation that's way more than they deserve, often to pay for setbacks they had prior to when the accident even happened. Like? Not having proper income, improper paperwork, pre-existing health conditions, etc. Like really, John Doe, your irregular heartbeat did not arise from when you t-boned the minivan with the three children that you claim "appeared out of nowhere".. it came from the fact that you are 100 pounds overweight and should've settled the fuck down with the Arby's curly fries years ago.

I've been in a couple accidents, being rear-ended was the worst one. And in most cases things will fix themselves.. for the things that don't you just remember that shit happens. In a lot of cases the best course of action for these people were to move on and quit trying to get pennies (that they'd have to hand over to their lawyer anyway) just so they'd get what they thought was proper retribution. Dust yourself off and move the fuck on! Sometimes easier said than done.. but still.

So yeah, that's what probably was going on in my head on a Monday afternoon in March 2006.

BTW, this song doesn't have to do with anything really. It's just along the lines of what I listen to when it's grey and depressing outside on a Monday afternoon in March 2007. Hey, I never said cohesiveness was my forte.

It's not that these books are unbearable to read per se, it's more the fact that I have the attention span of a gnat. And textbooks and course readers and lecture notes take priority these days. I will eventually finish them though. I swear!

The Time Traveler's Wife I was supposed to finish over reading week, but I didn't even have time to sit down and pick up a magazine or newspaper or something light to read let alone a whole novel. Fine, maybe I didn't make time. But still. This thing is like 400 pages so I think it'd have to be one of those books I fully immerse myself in, you know, go missing for a couple of days cos I'm hibernating in my bed type of dedication.

Everything is Illuminated I've been trying to read for a good year now at least. I've almost finished it a couple times, the closest I came was last year during my reading week trip to Mexico. Then school and work started up again and I had to put it aside for months. It's a pretty dense book in terms of events so it's not just something I can pick up where I left off, I always have to start from somewhere near the beginning to reacquaint myself. The one phrase I semi-regularly utilize from the book is "Stop spleening me!", but only around my coworker Elan cos I know she's read the book and gets what it means. Elan was the one who lent me Time Traveler's Wife... I guess basically what I'm getting at is she's my idol and my life goal is to read all the cool books she has read. Haha.

bipolar disorder

So the other night my brother comes over and we are having our usual discussion about new music we've discovered. We start talking about The Dears' new album ("alright", according to him -- I haven't heard it yet, I'm still torrenting =S). Then he asks me if I've seen the video for "22: The Death of All Romance", which is from their first album, and I had not, so I proceeded to Youtube it. I IMMEDIATELY REGRETTED THE DECISION, much like when Ron Burgandy regretted jumping into a pit with ravenous bears. It is, hands down, the saddest video I have ever seen in my life.

So here it is. I gave you fair warning.

Oh, and to offset it, in case you feel like slitting your wrists much like I did, I posted a relatively happy video for a relatively happy song that I am currently enjoying. =)

Gwen Stefani's newest album didn't get the greatest reviews but I thought it was pretty solid. I personally think it's better than her first one, and people were all up on that shit. This is probably my favorite track off of Sweet Escape, it's classic 80's throwback Pharrell, very "yeah, I just programmed this beat five minutes ago on my Casio keyboard, what?". *inserts more synths and hand-claps* I love singing the lyrics, especially the bridge -- "oh no no no hush hush.. you were right" as if to say "fuck it, whatever.. can't we just let this go?" Very passive-aggressive, like myself. *cough* *avoids rocks*

Also, when the background singers and Pharrell go "whoaaaa-whoaa-whoa.. HEY", I like to imagine a chorus of fat black ladies singing it, it just makes it THAT much more enjoyable to listen to.
